Robert Dansby, Director of the Print & Media Lab at CalArts, didn’t run AIDSWatch quietly. Every computer in a windowless lab, screens set to the site, lights cut — full twenty-four hours, start to finish. The names fell just out of sync with each other, screen to screen, until the whole room pulsed like one slow heartbeat. Then a card would cut in — World AIDS Day — and break the trance for a second, before the room settled back into rhythm.
